Tennis Cambodia is hoping you are all well wherever you are in the world! If you haven’t already heard, the Cambodian Davis Cup team is currently in Tehran, Iran, for the 2016 Asia/Oceania Zone Group III Davis Cup. Traveling as Non-Playing captain is Tep Rithivit, our Head National Coach is Braen Aneiros, our Assistant National Coach is Chea Poev, along with Physiotherapist Ngim Seng. The five players who have traveled for this year’s Davis Cup campaign are Bun Kenny, Tan Nysan, Long Samneang, Mam Vetu and Mam Phalkun.

The team arrived early on the morning of the 7th into Tehran. The DC (Davis Cup) for Cambodia was held in Tehran just two years ago in 2014, so it was a familiar sight for most of us. Tehran is a very beautiful city, full of kind people, and also a city with a lot of history — even for us! Though we are back in Tehran, the venue of competition has changed, where before we played at the Engelhab Sports Complex, and now this year we will compete at the Esteghlal International Tennis Academy. \

We were able to get out for our first practice at the new site yesterday and had two even better sessions just today! Though it was tough to manage the conditions at first, we all stayed positive and in good spirits. The bounce of the ball is unpredictable, the air is thinner which makes it harder to breath because of Tehran’s higher elevation, and we are always under the watchful eye of our potential opponents — but this doesn’t scare us! With two more full days of practice before competition commences on the 11th of July, Monday, we can only get better and sharper, and we can assure you all we will be ready to fight for ourselves, for you, and for the country we came here to represent!

Please follow us any way that you can, Tennis Cambodia will be posting constantly on our Facebook page, our Website (www.tenniscambodia.com), Instagram (@tenniscambodia), and we will constantly send our email updates after each match to keep you all informed. The captain’s meeting will take place, and this will be followed by the official draw ceremony, so stay tuned because tomorrow we will find out if we are either in Pool A or B, and who will be in that group with us for the round robin matches, very exciting stuff!

Thank you in advance, this year is a special year for us as we feel we have the strongest team ever for another shot at a Group II promotion.
