The day began with breakfast and a lucky draw to determine which sponsoring player would be paired with which Tennis Cambodia National Team Member or Coach. To make it more interactive, the sponsoring players, some of which included ANZ Royal’s CEO, Grant Knuckey, and also CCC’s General Manager, David Wilkinson, and had them reach into a hat to pull out randomly their partner for the one day doubles tournament.
After the teams were decided, the 12 teams were split into 4 pools of 3 teams, the results of which would decide the top 4 seeds going into a feed-in bracket, which was a draw of 16 with the top 4 seeds getting a bye. After the pool play was complete, Grant Knuckey of ANZ Royal Bank and partner Long Chumnith were the #1 seeds by having a winning percentage of 86% after the round robin pool play. Unfortunately, the Ezecom team of Sakada and Samouen overcame Grant’s team in the quarterfinals to advance to semis and eventually the finals.
Winning the team event this time around was none other than the Cambodian Country Club, who did quite well in the round robin play, giving them 2 seeds going into the final feed-in bracket, earning just enough points to also capture the team title as well!
Want to give a very big thank you to the participating sponsors: ANZ Royal Bank, Cambrew Ltd, Ezecom, and the Cambodian Country Club for their kind support in making this year’s Pro-Ams possible. It is very reassuring for us at Tennis Cambodia to know that we have such loyal partners as we move into 2016 and continue to bring tennis to the people of Cambodia.
