The Singha Bangkok Open is the 2nd edition of the TATP Tour series, held at the Impact Tennis Academy. The dates of the tournament are from the 30th of April until the 8th of May. The field for the 2nd edition looks to not be quite as strong, missing some big name players such as Christopher Rungkat, the #1 seed and champion of the Singha Classic last month in March.
Traveling to Bangkok for the 2nd edition, are national team members, Kenny Bun, Phalkun Mam, Samneang Long, Vannasak Chheang, and Sarith Our, of which this will be his first ever tournament outside of Cambodia.
Vannasak didn’t have what it took to overcome Dejsith Kaewpan of Thailand today in the first round of the Pre-Qualifying 2 Draw. The two shared similar game styles except that Kaewpan’s serve was much better, making it easier to hold serve and focus on his return games. Vannasak struggled to pinpoint Kaewpan’s weakness and couldn’t overcome his own as he made many unforced errors and double faults.
Sarith lost to Poovadol Boontrakul, the #1 seed in the pre-qualifying 1 draw, 3-6 6-2 10-5 in the super-tiebreaker. Sarith came out firing, playing fearless Tennis. Boontrakul figured out that Sarith was averse to balls hit with no pace, so he started to lob the ball back, which flustered Sarith. In the 10 point tiebreaker, Sarith was out of sorts, and couldn’t pull off the win.
Mam, the 3rd seed in the men’s pre-qualifying 1 draw, was able to get past Thanakorn Silachoat of Thailand, in 3 sets. Mam starred out very slow, hardly able to keep the ball in play and so lost the first set 6-4. He bounced right back, finding Form with his forehands to win the 2nd set 6-1, and used that momentum to close out in the super-tiebreaker 10-6. Final score: 4-6 6-1 10-6.
Mam will have another match this afternoon, not before 2:30pm. Samneang Long and Bun Kenny are slated to play tomorrow afternoon in the first round of qualifying, after the final rounds of the pre-qualy draws finish up tomorrow morning.
