Kenny, Phalkun & Vannasak in KL Open Championship

Fri, 21 July 2017:

Cambodian national tennis players Bun Kenny and Mam Phalkun will put their readiness for next month’s SEA Games to the test in the Kuala Lumpur Open Championship being held from July 26-30 at the National Tennis Complex in the Malaysian capital, where the Kingdom had gone through the 2015 Davis Cup Group III campaign.

The tournament revives fond memories for Cambodia’s No1 player Kenny who won a BMW open event in KL three years ago following his success in Vietnam the previous year.

Also making the trip is Chheang Vannasak, who is pursuing his studies in the United States. All three will figure in the singles along side some of Malaysia’s best, while Kenny and Phalkun will team up in the doubles as well.

The format for the singles will be best of three tie-break sets, and each doubles match will be two tie-break sets, with a match tie-break in place of a deciding third set. No-advantage scoring will also be used for the doubles.

Vannasak, who has been training throughout the summer here in Phnom Penh, will be returning to Lewis and Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho, next month and is hoping to gain some match experience leading up to his fall season, playing tennis for the Lewis and Clark State College Warriors men’s tennis team.
