Semifinal Loss for Ka in South Korean ITF Futures

Mon, 4 September 2017:

A week after picking up women’s singles bronze medal in the just concluded 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games, Cambodia’s Andrea Ka bowed out in the semifinals of the $15,000 ITF Futures in South Korea’s Yeongwol Sports Park on Friday.

The sixth-seeded 25-year-old right-hander, currently ranked 614 in the WTA rankings list, found second-seeded American Hana Chang, ranked 463, too strong, going down 2-5, 2-6.

The 19-year-old Chang went on to win the title, beating Dabin Kim of South Korea 7-6, 7-5 in the final. The French-born Cambodian will stay on for another similar event at the same venue this week.

Earlier on the way to the last four, Ka overcame Alicia Barnett of Britain 7-5, 7-5 after being stretched in the second round by China’s Yanni Liu, who after winning the first set went down 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
